The ssh connection is getting garbage sent over
it, possibly due to someting in one of your .cshrc
or .bashrc files.

If you use the command:

  ssh your-server-name-goes-here date

and you see more than one line (the date), then
you will need to fix your "dot" files on the
server side to be quiet in non-interactive mode.
