Full stop..!!!

You have not shown us what your $CVSROOT looks like, so pick the if that
applies to you.

If you are saying that on your MS box $CVSROOT=//dodeca/cpntools/... , or
that your unix box is mounting from a ms box to do repository access, then I
suggest reading several of the emails from the link below. When accessing
the repository with cvs from boxes other than the one that physically has
the disk, ALWAYS use one of the :ext: or :pserver: methods.

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/cgi-bin/namazu.cgi?query=samba+nfs+Larry&submit=Search%21&idxname=info-cvs&max=10&result=normal&sort=score

If you are !*_ONLY_*! accessing //dodeca/cpntools through SMB to run
find|grep|tar, then just ignore me.

see if LockDir is defined in $CVSROOT/CVSROOT/config, if it is then your
locks might be in a different place... I am not sure if CVS reports the
directory in the repo or the LockDir if it hits a lock in a LockDir.

If you are accessing a repository not physically on the machine the client
is running on, verify $CVSROOT has either :ext: or :pserver:
