It's typically a smooth process. See the NEWS file for details.

Backups are always a good idea.

Upgrading the software is as simple as replacing the binaries. As a matter
of habit, you should run 'cvs init' on the repository - this will create any
new administrative files that may not be currently present.

Yes. :=)

Seriously, though, it depends what you want. The feature branch has more
features, but is not necessarily as robust as the stable branch. So, what do
you want - features or robustness?

I believe Bugzilla integrates with CVS - I don't use it myself, so I can't
speak with authority on it.
