That shouldn't cause any problems.  The most likely cause of the problem
is that you're out of disk space for the repository (either because the
disk itself is full or because you've exceeded your quota).  If that's
not the problem, CVS 1.11.1p1 is pretty old, you might want to upgrade
(both client and server) to a more recent release and see if you get any
more informative error messages.  You also might want to try performing
the operation on the server with a local repository rather than using
client/server mode to see if that gives you any more information.
