I do not know about cvsgui, but I believe the project you want to import
already contains some CVS/ directories. Thus, remove every directory
with CVS/ - for example, by typing

$ find <pathtoproject> -name CVS -type d -exec rm -r -i \{\} \;

- and try again to import
