The problem is that CVS has no way of knowing how the revisions on the
vendor branch are related to the revisions on the trunk, so it can't
give you the information you're looking for.  It should, at the very
least, tell you that it can't give you what you're asking for rather
than quietly giving you something else (which is what it currently
does).  One could even argue that it should give you its best guess.
