Well have you looked at the ediff option with Emacs? You can find it
under the Tools->VC menu with newer Emacs. It will let you select
revisions and the ediff console has many options for controlling the
diff.
In the commercial arena, the nicest visual diff tool I have seen is
Jetbrains's IdeaJ IDE. It will let you diff selected revisions or tag.
You can also pass options (limited to controlling the whitespaces, may
have changed now)
