By what means?
What do you mean by crash?

I think the general answer is, if you can make it actually crash (i.e., receive signal 11, or otherwise core dump) the group would like to hear how so it can be fixed, that kind of thing is very unusual for cvs. For most things you get an error message for (like goman's question) the reason is a misconfiguration of either the client or the server which is causing them to fail to communicate.

if you think the cvs server exiting with an error message is crashing,
1) you have a strange notion of a software crash.
2) the precaution you should take is to read the manual[1] and understand the error message[2].

Why did you quote goman, but ask a somewhat different question?
BTW the general answer to goman's question is in the FAQ[3] and manual[2].
