Kelly / Spiro,

My understanding is that no version of CVS (including the cygwin version) will run in server mode.  I could be wrong of course - certainly Spiro seems to think so.

Going deep into history - one of the motivators for writing CVSNT seven years ago was to support servers on Windows.  It was then back ported to Linux/Unix.

If you are needing a "faster tag" CVSNT 2.6 which goes into general testing soon(ish) includes that feature.

Arthur,

Thanks for the info, but it won’t help me.  What I didn’t say in my earlier post (this is what I get for trying to be brief! ;-> ) is that the reason I’m going through this exercise is to use some profiling tools to figure out why certain operations against my linux based repo take so long.  I only have windows licenses for the tools that I want to use, so I need to come up with a way to do tag –b operation with a windows cvs executable.

So, do you believe that the 1.12.13 cvs.exe won’t work with a local repo on windows?

Kelly,

You'll need to install CVSNT Server (free GPL runs on Windows/Linux/Unix/Mac).  Provided it's a read-only copy (set the "read only" flag in the control panel) then it'll be OK.

If you need to sync between linux/unix/windows then they will need to all be CVSNT servers (all free too), and you'll get repository auditing, mergepoints, change sets etc etc.

For various reasons I want to make a windows copy of a repository that’s hosted on linux.  I’ve tried various ways to move the data and each time I end up with the same result. When using a downloaded windows binary of 1.12.13, if I do a cvs co it goes through all the motions, creates all the directories and so forth, but none of the files are there…..

Any ideas?  I’ve seen various goggle results say that the repository files always have unix style line endings regardless of the host platform, and I’ve even tried going through every file and converting it to dos style line endings with the same results.  So, I must be missing something, I’m just not sure what…..
