Question on changing repository name.

I need to change the name of a CVS repository directory that resides on
a Linux system.  Unfortunately I will need to transition a number of
developers from the old name to the new name.  The question I have is: 
Is it practical to create a hard link (using the ln UNIX command) on the
Linux CVS server in CVSROOT with two names pointing to the same
repository directory during this transitional period?  What problems if
any would this cause?  We currently use pserver for CVS access.
