CVS Checkout Error

I am in the process of building a new repository. The directory structure has been built and have just started added code. At the beginning of the script I check out the project  and get the following:

 

cvs checkout: Updating mdw

cvs checkout: [19:11:10] waiting for u11c03's lock in /home/u11c03/cvsRepos/mdw        

 

I never intentionally locked anything. What is this all about and how do I fix it (other that is than starting from scratch, which is actually not a real big problem at this point).
