Sharanappa,

There are quite a few CVS's out there now: OpenCVS, CVSNT, DCVS and 'original' CVS.  CVS 2.x refers to CVSNT (open source, GPL, unix/hp/sun as well as windows, mac and as/400) and CVS 1.x refers to the 'original' CVS, I don't know about revision numbers for DCVS, OpenCVS etc.

The choice of which to use probably depends on the features you require, CVS 2.x (CVSNT) has features such as merge tracking, failsafe audit, access control lists, change sets, commit id's, reserved and unreserved edits (locking) etc etc.

Regards,

Arthur
