How to copy a CVS check out to a different machine

HI 
Im using a windows machine and have tortoise CVS installed in it. Recently I
had to change my system(new sysetm also runs windows). I copied my CVS
checkout folders from its root and pasted on to my new machine. Now tortoise
recognizes the copied folders in the new system as CVS folders(green mark),
but when I give CVS update it says it does not know the contents within. 

Is there any way that I can give a CVS update on the CVS folder(s) that I
copied on to the new system??
