Nope.

Not true. I specifically didn't upgrade any of my projects beyond
autoconf-2.13 and automake-1.4 while libtool-1.4 was in development. 1.4b
(the first alph release leading towards libtool-1.5) is the first release
tarball to require anything higher.

I'd rather you enhance the portability of libtool-1.4 to fix any issues you
are experiencing. A libtool-1.4.1 *is* planned real soon now.
