  So, that means there's no way to avoid this behaviour?  Would falling
back to libtool 1.4.x be at all useful, or would I lose too much for it

be worth it?

  I just don't want to confuse my users to much when trying to compile
from a bundled distribution...  Wonder if I can hand-remove that
other cruft?  Prolly too much work...
