There is apparently a fix for GNU/ld in the last day or so. See:

I hope to try this fix, by Eric Botcazou, for myself next week (also
checking that it doesn't break things on S8 or S9). Meanwhile, other folk
here also might wish to try it and report back (positively or negatively)
at that bugzilla location.
