This patch fixes a problem I recently noticed on ia64 (not hppa64) HPUX.
I'm pretty sure this build worked with libtool 1.5.18 (but I don't have
logs that far back so I can't be certain), but it's been failing with
libtool 1.5.22 because g++ doesn't understand "+b":

After rebuilding the sources with your patch applied to libtool, the
build succeeds:
