The GNU website has both the current manual:

...as well as this older version from 1.5.24:
http://www.gnu.org/software/libtool/manual.html

>From the similarity of the URLs I'm guessing that this is accidental. 
Unfortunately search engines have an uncanny habit of finding those old
copies and putting them near the top of the results, which leads to a
lot of confusion if the neglected version evades deletion long enough
such that it documents a long-obsolete version.
