How to instruct libtool to link .so files instead of .la files?

How to instruct libtool to link .so files instead of .la files?

i have an issue with libtool 2.2.6. Some of the devel packages im using were providing .la files for linking. Now .la files have been removed and im forced to use .so files instead. Is there any way to force libtool to use .so names instead of .la?
