I am not the original commenter but had the exact same symptoms and tried some
of the same solutions that didn't work.
Yes
`path(path())`
does allow the file to work at a least until the next time Octave is
restarted.
The problem is intermittent and hard to reproduce so I am not sure what
induces the problem.
GNU Octave, version 9.1.0
Windows 11
