Follow-up Comment #12, bug #64277 (group octave):

The missing detail in comment #8 is the clue. The issue that you are facing is
the one reported in #65617 and which is fixed in the default branch by this
changeset: https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/a583e8d66a19
Are you able to build octave yourself. Then you could test the version from
the default branch.

I am quite sure that the deletion of selected text using F9 is unrelated.
