Uttam,

I use Ubuntu 7.10 on an IBM T43 laptop without issues. My steps are:
 1. Get/Burn Ubuntu DVD
 2. Boot from DVD and "install"
 3. After install get "envy" application.
wget http://albertomilone.com/ubuntu/nvidia/scripts/ubuntu/ envy_0.9.9-0ubuntu1_all.deb

 4. use package manager to install the .deb
 5. run envy ... follow prompts but it's very easy to follow...

"envy" will download and install the latest graphics driver. When you do kernel updates Ubuntu will disable it. You just have to go re- enable it after or re-run "envy".

Should work just fine and have your graphics setup properly in a short time. Try doing all this from a command line (i.e. wget envy and the apt install of envy...then running it). It will even ask you if you want it to setup the X config...say 'yes'.

Hi Pascal,

Thanks for the tips. I got the laptop, and downloaded Ubuntu 7.1 for 64 bit processors. My laptop is a Copmaq Presario 3611AU, here are the specs:

AMD Athlon 64 1.8Ghz
14.1" Widescreen 1280*800
120GB HDD, 1.5GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 7150m graphics card with shared memory

When I boot from the Ubuntu 7.1 LiveCD/Installer, everything works fine ( I select install, the 1st option on the menu ), and then it says that the graphics card and monitor were not detected, and that it's running in low res mode. If I select ignore problem and continue, the laptop freezes, and sometimes it just keeps giving the bcm43xx error again and again. Nothing happens when I select the graphics driver for nVidia 7 series card too. Anyone experienced these problems? I googled, and get a lots of hits, but nothing conclusive yet...

Thanks in advance,
Uttam
