The picture shows an R607FS (6-channel) but R617FS looks the same inside.

 

I've been using this receiver for awhile with the tiny and it works well, except you lose the ability to detect loss of /C (The receiver keeps sending last known servo positions so the autopilot doesn't know anything has gone wrong).  As you say a workaround is to use CH3 for mode instead of throttle and activate the builtin failsafe, but it still won't report R/C Lost.
