It is likely that the summary generation got aborted in the middle and the
summary data is corrupted.  Visit the folder without a summary, and try 
doing M-x vm-fix-my-summary.

If that doesn't solve the problem, you will need to clear the cached data
for the corrupted messages.  That is a bit hard if you can't even get the
summary generated.

I will think about how to protect the summary data better.
