Should but appears not to :)

aplay -v -B 100660 [soundfile @ 48kHz]
still produces clicks or some such noise for me...

I am wondering why.... Nothing obvious strikes me.

The approach looks perfectly fine, and I agree we don't have to worry
about aplay failing.
