No, I just extracted the tarball then ran configure. I repeated those steps
just now to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

I just also tried configuring aspell on some other FreeBSD machines I have
access; 4.3, 4.5, and 4.6.2 all seemed to fail in the same way.
