Me too.  Every week.  It's offensively ugly -- nothing but a
bucket of special cases.  But it works.

FWIW, there's also more likely to be a binary Perl distribution
than some of the others.  Perl lists 50 or so platforms either
with binary distributions, or with Perl included in the
distribution.  Python lists 17.
