Thanks - with that I was finally able to reproduce this bug.

No  the ChangeLog entry needs to accompany the patch.  It is not done as 
an afterthought.

Anyway I have tried out the patch - it works - so I have applied it 
along with this ChangeLog entry:

        * archive.c (_bfd_get_elt_at_filepos): Cope with a nested archives.
        (bfd_generic_openr_next_archived_file): Likewise.
