Yes, the problems I'm seeing are with the patched version of strip - I should
have mentioned that in the report.

I've attached a cpio file containing the unstripped shared library, the file
stripped with 2.16.1 and the file stripped with 2.17 (which is quite a bit
larger than the unstripped file!)
