That could well be the problem. If you have automake and/or autoconf
installed on that system, it is possible for make to screw things up
such that configure no longer works correctly. CVS is pushing the
automake envelope and one thing we've discovered is that automake does
not have sufficient facilities for specifying a minimum required
version.
