In general, it appears to be generally agreed that we work towards
hopefully avoiding and in need, supressing, all warnings.  If the
fix/supression requires Windows specific compiler directives, this may
not be the case.  It might also not be the case when the cause on a
particular platform appearss to be extremely wrong-headed, but this
hasn't happened much.

As far as I know, no one has been doing much Windows work at all, much
less actively working to remove the compiler warnings.
