Dired is a large mode with many commands and key bindings. Emacs lists
them in the alphabetical order, because this is the only order where a
user can predictably find something quickly. A user who lacks the
patience to browse through the entire list will surely miss some
important bindings. There's nothing we can do about that, since the
relative importance of various functions is a highly subjective matter
(FWIW, I _never_ use `^' in Dired).
The same holds about the Info manual, btw: the Dired chapter there is
very long, and if you don't read it in its entirety, you might miss
important functionality, including the `^' key, even though now it is
there.
