Could the files have something that clearly identifiues them as a met
other than the extension? Perhaps some code or line inside the file that
it would scan very quickly? If it seems a problem because of non-stop
scanning, then perhaps it could crete a log of the files in the
directory the first time, and compare the directory to the current log
when it displays the METs. That way if the directory's contents hadn't
changed it wouldn't bother scanning the files, but if a new file
appeared, a new MET, it would check to see if it is a new MET to be
added.
