Hmm ok I see. Too bad, I thought there is an option to enable that feature. Can someone tell me how often the developers update particular things or if you can contact them?

It's a bit harsh to call it a "mistake," even in jest. I would say instead: Using beavers and raccoons in match play is nonstandard. GNU Backgammon can't implement every nonstandard variant out there. The developers are likely to implement only the most common variants. It's possible that this particular variant will gain in popularity, and then someone might implement it. Right now, though, it looks unlikely, because so few people play this way.
