your trick seems to work.
Thank you.

Anyway this trick
- should be documented
- not only available as cmdline flag but as menu option
- allow a relative path (like  "..\mypreferences") starting at GnuBGs 
installation directory
  which means "go up one dir and then step down into neighbor dir 
"mypreferences"

Can this be implemented?
It should be easy.
