Yes, it'd be a viable test of the part of Gnulib that we care about for 
Solaris 10.

Of course, you're welcome to continue doing an entire port the whole shebang 
(GNU m4, Autoconf, Automake etc.) to Solaris 10 and it sounds like you're 
doing that anyway and so might want to look into whatever problem you're 
having there. But if the idea is merely to test Gnulib on Solaris 10, 
testing the output of gnulib-tool should be enough.
