Dare I say it, but it seems that libwraster isn't exactly updated often. Why don't we just take the tiny parts of the code that we need and stick
them in GNUstep itself? Are there copyright assignment issues here?


That's actually what we are talking about. There is basic code from libwraster in GNUstep that is used if libwraster is not found.
