OK, thanks.  I've just installed groff that way, and the usual "man"
invocations seem to be working for me, even for the man pages defined
by Sun.  So making tmac_wrap="" the default sounds good to me.

I checked for macros and strings defined by Sun's macro packages but
not groff's, and came up with the following list:

HC IX PN TZ VE VS ]D ]F ]H ]I ]L ]R ]X ]i ]r }1 }2 }E }F }H }K }N }S }X }f

Of these macros, the man pages supplied by Sun invoke only IX and TZ.
These two macros are obsolescent (the man pages generated from SGML
don't use them).  .IX is for generating indexes, and .TZ is to put
nice strings at the top of each man page, but since they're obsolescent
I don't think groff needs to worry about them.
