Subject: [bug #62955] [grops] \(va fallback character overrides glyph available in S font
Date: Mon, 29 Aug 2022 19:00:22 -0400 (EDT)

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #62955 (project groff):

Nikita uses XITSMath-Regular.pfa as his "special" font so if you try:-

.special XITSMR
.rchar \[va]
.ps 36
.vs 42
.nf
\(rsva: \(va
\(rso\(aq\(rsua\(rsda\(aq: \o'\(ua\(da'

You will see the raw \[va] used from the font is slightly superior to the
composed glyph from ps.tmac, the same as shown
in Nikita's example. I agree that .schar is a sensible change since it will
only get used if any of the special fonts do not contain the glyph (such as in
the case where S is the special font). This is true for all composed glyphs
which are intended to extend the repertoire of the symbol font.
