Did you take the gnumach-1-branch?  CVS HEAD is gnumach 2, which is now
abandoned.

That shouldn't be needed, provided that you apply the tls patch to the
Hurd.

Note that it's not because some "fix" gets you further in the boot
process that it really is a fix...
