Unless someone raises objections, I will push this patch set tomorrow.
It has served very well during the past week, and it has enabled me to
develop code and portable tests that have already been pushed since then.

NetBSD passes the full test suite, and OpenSolaris has a complete build with
only rshd, rlogind, talk, and talkd disabled. Testing only fails due to known
issues.

For next iteration, I wonder if we could get limited access to investigate
adaptions for AIX, IRIX, HP_UX, and commercial Solaris. I volonteer for the
test running. Within a few hours I will push an improved "tests/tftp.sh".
