Why not create a command-line option --maintainer-mode for confifgure
script, which would enable checking for dependencies when building from
Git sources? I'm not volunteering to do this before July 15th, though.

I'd rather not have more than one source of information about building
dependencies, so I vote for adding a subection in install.itely about
building from Git and a URL to this in a text file INSTALL.git at top of
the sources.
