Actually this is a 'general' issue with stencils when set to '##f'

For example I use fingering notation a lot in my Trumpet pieces, but when I  
override the stencil and turn it off, the logs spews out lots of these  
messages about 'cannot align on self: empty element', however the PDF is ok  
and if you make the engraver transparent, the messages go away.

So we could document this somewhere about turning engravers off  but this  
isn't specific to StringNumber but a general 'issue'.
