Doesn't it make even more sense to make the self-alignment-interface to  
properly deal with 'stencil = ##f and do nothing?  Using point-stencil is  
not a real help in every case, since it affects skylines; you'd always have  
to tweak padding or staff-priorities.  'stencil = ##f leaves the skyline  
completely alone.
