I don't thonk it is a good idea to try to accomodate "lax" users. Take a piece 
of code like:
         {c'2 ~ d' c'}  
This could be left in a lily file by a "lax" user after much editing who is 
quite satisfied by the final output. If the proposed change were made then a 
slur would "magically" appear. In short "lax" syntax can couse as many problems 
as it solves for "lax" users.
