Eli Z. has already expressed real concerns about the help format output;
he's trying to convert messages to Hebrew, which is right-to-left!

For the next release, for the benefit of translators, I think I'll have
to forgo the "constructed help message" code altogether and just make it
a great big static string.  This will be less convenient for developers
(me :)), but the command line interface doesn't change _that_ often.
