I can see how LVM2 can help, but I don't see the connection to the
previous paragraph...

Of course... I've been busy on other issues ATM, but I certainly
think this is worth doing.
It requires a lot of communication with the OS... so I think
we'll need to extend PedArchitecture a fair bit. I wonder how
easily this whole process can be abstracted.
