I can confirm. I could reproduce the same corruptions by downloading the
CD version of RIP version 11.4 and using it on an empty disk (loop device,
whatever):

Kernel 2.6.9. As previously discussed, most people reporting these
corruptions were using Gentoo but there were some Debian users too. 
RIP isn't based on anything.

Exactly the same command.

Exactly the same error message.

I also made some other tests, randomly. The results were quite scary. 
For example after resizing reiserfs, Parted started to crash using 
'print' (float point exception), reiserfstune segfaulted, reiserfsck
quited without any messages (sometimes actually even before resizing
reiserfs) and so on.
