L.S.

In an attempt to install Fedora on my computer I ended up with a request to send a bug report. With some general information I hereby send you this bug report.

General information
I am not an experienced Linux user. I downloaded Fedora only today.
This what I did: I burned the ISO file to a DVD and used it to boot the system. I tested the media and it was found correct. The Fedora Core installation got going. I chose a language and a keyboard (at first Dutch, on a second try English) went to the next screen and received the following bug reports:
Assertion (heads < 256) at disk_dos.c:486 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed
Assertion ((C*heads + H) * sectors + S ==A) at disk_dos.c:495 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed
Assertion (heads > 0) at disk_dos.c:485 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed
Assertion (sectors <= 63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed

Then I studied Red Hat Linux 9: Red Hat Linux x86 Installation Guide, in particular Apendix G (2): Configuring a dual boot system. I noticed that the issue of partitioning a hard disk  is of vital importance for the installation of Linux. I followed the steps outlined in the installation guide (G3):
at the boot prompt I  typed: linux rescue
a few screens later I typed at the prompt -/bin/sh-3.00* : parted  /dev/hda
then came Using parted /dev/hda (parted): print a
It was followed by the following message:
You found a bug in GNU Parted. Please email a bug report to address@hidden containing the version (1.6.15), and the following message:
Assertion (heads < 256) at disk_dos.c:486 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed
Assertion (sectors <= 63) at disk_dos.c:490 in function probe_partition_for_geom() failed

Hereby I send you the requested report. And obviously I would like to know: how do I go about from here myself to get Fedora installed after all?

Bye bye,
M. de Reus
