Parted don't lose data, or if it does, that's a bug...

When you ask a size that is to small, Parted correct it to the 
minimum possible size. If the difference between the size you
asked and the size you can get is to high, Parted ask you
if you really want to continue. In your case, you probably
asked for a size not to far to the minimum possible to fit
all your data, so Parted didn't ask anything.
